CVE-2025-37741

Filesystem hang via unchecked zero inode link count

Published May 1, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Denial of service in Linux JFS allows local users to hang a mounted filesystem through corrupted inode metadata in a crafted disk image. diReadSpecial reads corrupted aggregate inode table data, and copy_from_dinode accepts a zero di_nlink for an IAG inode, causing diFree to reacquire im_aglock recursively. The path requires local access to present the image and invoke a directory operation; the deadlock wedges the mount and triggers a kernel panic where hung-task panic is enabled.
