CVE-2025-36939Network attack vector

Device crashes via malformed MLE packet handling

Published Aug 24, 2026 · Updated Aug 24, 2026

Denial of service in OpenThread MLE handling in Google Nest 3.78.518349 allows remote authenticated users to crash devices with crafted packets. OpenThread's MLE packet-handling path processes the crafted packets until assertions fire or a stack buffer overflows instead of rejecting them. An attacker must already be authenticated to the same Thread network; the documented consequence is device service interruption.
