Local privilege escalation via surface image overflow
Published Sep 4, 2025 · Updated Sep 4, 2025
Heap buffer overflow in the Pixel Boot Loader in Google Android allows local users to gain elevated privileges through USB fastboot. The draw_surface_image() function in abl/android/lib/draw/draw.c writes beyond a heap buffer while rendering a supplied surface image. Exploitation requires an unlocked bootloader and user interaction; successful exploitation grants elevated local privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
