Remote code execution via oversized HELP argument
Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Buffer overflow in the HELP command handler in PCMan FTP Server 2.0.7 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted FTP command. The handler processes an oversized HELP argument without checking its length; the published exploit uses 2,007 bytes to overwrite EIP and redirect execution to supplied shellcode. The exploit first completes an anonymous FTP login, and successful exploitation runs code in the server process while malformed input can crash it.
