Authenticated privilege escalation via unsafe role assignment
Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 20, 2026
Privilege escalation in affected IBM DS8A00 and DS8900F HMC firmware allows remote authenticated users to create privileged accounts. The HMC user-management logic permits an authenticated account to assign unsafe privileged roles when creating another user. Access requires prior authentication through client-controlled infrastructure; the resulting account gains privileged HMC capabilities, but the HMC stores no customer data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=10.1.3.0 <=10.11.35.0
