Backup destruction via unchecked CCW updates
Published Dec 26, 2025 · Updated Dec 26, 2025
Missing authorization in IBM DS8000 Safeguarded Copy on DS8A00 and DS8900F allows local users to delete or corrupt backups. The Safeguarded Copy/GDPS logical-corruption controls accept CCW update operations without a separate authorization check before altering protected backup copies. Reachability requires authorized CCW update permissions; successful operations can destroy recovery copies or leave them corrupted.
