Incorrect permissions in Mirror Registry for Red Hat OpenShift before 2 allow local users to gain root access within the quay-app pod. The quay-app container leaves /etc/passwd writable, so an actor inside it can modify account data and assume UID 0. Exploitation requires low-privilege access to the running container and user interaction; the resulting privilege is confined to root inside that pod.
