Stored XSS via discarded encoding result
Published Oct 28, 2025 · Updated Oct 28, 2025
Stored XSS in IPFire before 2.29 (Core Update 198) allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in other users' browsers. The cleanhtml() function in /var/ipfire/header.pl calls escape() and HTML::Entities::encode_entities() but discards the encoded return value, then stores and renders the original input. Authentication is required to submit a crafted field, and script execution occurs when another user views the saved entry.
