Stored script execution via unsanitized service protocol
Published Oct 28, 2025 · Updated Oct 28, 2025
Stored XSS in IPFire before 2.29 (Core Update 198) allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through a crafted service protocol. The /cgi-bin/fwhosts.cgi saveservice path stores the PROT parameter and later renders it without HTML sanitization or encoding. An authenticated user must create the service, and the script runs when another user views its entry, enabling browser-context data access or actions.
