Privilege escalation via writable scheduled script
Published Oct 30, 2025 · Updated Oct 30, 2025
Local privilege escalation in Nagios XI before 2024R2 allows local users with web server privileges to execute code as nagios. The periodically executed process_perfdata.pl script is owned by www-data and writable through that web server account, so altered Perl content runs under the nagios account. Exploitation requires control of the local web server identity; execution waits for the scheduled script run and grants the nagios account's access rather than root.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
