Local credential disclosure via world-readable /etc/issue
Published Sep 19, 2025 · Updated Sep 19, 2025
Cleartext credential storage in Vasion Print Application and Virtual Appliance Host allows local users to obtain the network account password. The appliance provisioning process writes the username and password to /etc/issue with mode 0644, allowing any local account to read them. Local shell access is required; the recovered account permits network-parameter changes through the appliance interface, enabling network disruption or further escalation.
