Local root access via preset console credentials
Published Sep 19, 2025 · Updated Sep 19, 2025
Hard-coded credentials in Vasion Print Application before 20.0.2368 and Virtual Appliance Host before 22.0.951 allow local users to gain root. The appliance image provisions an undocumented ubuntu account with a preset password in /etc/shadow and grants it unrestricted passwordless sudo in /etc/sudoers. Exploitation requires the preset password and local console or equivalent administrative access; SSH password login is disabled, but successful console login permits arbitrary commands as root.
