Authenticated command execution via unsanitized htpasswd invocation
Published Jul 15, 2025 · Updated May 15, 2026
OS command injection in proxy.cgi in IPFire before 2.19 Core Update 101 allows remote authenticated users to execute shell commands. The adduser path interpolates NCSA-derived credentials into a single-string system call to /usr/sbin/htpasswd without neutralizing shell metacharacters. An administrator session is required, and successful injection runs commands with the web server's unprivileged account.
