Published Jul 2, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Code execution in GFI Software Kerio Control 9.4.5 allows remote authenticated users to gain root access via a modified upgrade image. The firmware upgrade handler accepts a gzip-compressed TAR image without authenticity or integrity validation, then runs its replaceable upgrade.sh content. Administrative access is required for the upload; successful execution grants persistent root-level control of the appliance.
