Authenticated root command execution via unsanitized account parameters
Published Jul 1, 2025 · Updated Apr 7, 2026
OS command injection in AVTECH IP camera, DVR, and NVR devices allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary root commands. The PwdGrp.cgi user and group handler embeds the user, pwd, and grp parameters from account creation or modification requests directly into system commands without validation or sanitization. A valid authenticated session is required, after which injected shell syntax runs with root privileges and permits complete device control.
