Remote code execution via shortcut WorkingDirectory path
Published Jun 10, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Remote code execution in Microsoft Windows Internet Shortcut handling allows remote attackers to run code through a crafted .url file. The shortcut handler accepts an attacker-controlled WorkingDirectory path, causing a trusted Windows executable to search a remote WebDAV directory and load attacker-hosted code. A user must open the crafted shortcut; successful exploitation runs code in that user's context and has been observed in targeted attacks.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
