CVE-2025-33043

SMM code execution via improper pointer validation

Published May 29, 2025 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Improper pointer validation in American Megatrends International Aptio V 5.0 through 5.011 allows local users to execute code in SMM. An SMM module fails to reject pointer values whose referenced buffers overlap protected SMRAM, allowing memory references to target firmware data. Exploitation requires high-privilege local access and user interaction; successful corruption can modify firmware components and persist through writes to SPI flash.
