Authenticated disk exhaustion via unchecked ZIP expansion
Published Apr 15, 2025 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Denial of service in PeerTube before 7.1.1 allows remote authenticated users to exhaust server disk space through User Import. User Import passes uploaded archives to yauzl and extracts entries without limiting expansion, so a highly compressed ZIP expands until storage is consumed. Any registered user can reach the feature when user import is enabled, which is the default, and sustained exhaustion can shut down the server.
