Unauthorized playlist creation via unchecked channel ownership
Published Apr 15, 2025 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Improper ownership management in Framasoft PeerTube before 7.1.1 allows remote attackers to add playlists to another user's channel. The createOrUpdateVideoPlaylist path accepts an ActivityPub Playlist object's attributedTo channel without verifying that the signing actor owns it. Federation is enabled by default, and a forged Create activity makes the playlist appear under the victim's channel while leaving playlist control with the attacker.
