CVE-2025-32917

Root command execution via JAVA_HOME path precedence

Published May 13, 2025 · Updated May 13, 2025

Local privilege escalation in Checkmk's jar_signature agent plugin allows local users to execute replacement commands as root. The plugin prepends JAVA_HOME/bin to PATH, so a writable directory lets a user replace legitimate commands with malicious scripts. Exploitation requires the Signatures of certificates in JAR files rule and write access to JAVA_HOME/bin; execution occurs with root privileges.
