Local privilege escalation via AFD use-after-free
Published May 13, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Use-after-free in the Ancillary Function Driver for WinSock in Microsoft Windows allows local users to elevate privileges. The driver accesses memory after freeing it, but Microsoft has not disclosed the triggering WinSock operation or attacker-controlled input. Successful exploitation requires existing low-privilege local access and grants higher privileges on the affected host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
