Cross-site scripting in GitHub Enterprise Server 3.16.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute script via Markdown math blocks. The Markdown renderer permits dollar-delimited math blocks to escape early and fails to escape non-wrapped content, allowing malicious HTML or CSS into the rendered page. Exploitation requires instance access and a privileged user to interact with the malicious element, exposing browser-accessible data and actions.
