Root command execution via unsanitized run_cmd argument
Published Jun 8, 2025 · Updated Jun 9, 2025
Command injection in onsemi Quantenna Wi-Fi chipset SDK 8.0.0.28 and earlier allows local users to execute arbitrary commands as root. The run_cmd branch in router_command.sh grants executable permission to its unsanitized second argument and then invokes that argument directly. When the qcsapi RPC service remains enabled, unauthenticated network callers can reach the script and take control of the chip; otherwise, exploitation requires local command access.
