SYSTEM privilege escalation via insecure updater deletion
Published Sep 2, 2025 · Updated Sep 3, 2025
Privilege escalation in Samsung Magician 6.3 through 8.3 on Windows allows attackers to gain SYSTEM access during an update. The Windows Installer performs insecure file-delete operations during the update process, but Samsung has not disclosed the affected path or validation failure. Exploitation requires the vulnerable updater workflow to run, and successful abuse elevates execution to the Windows SYSTEM account.
