Unauthenticated service hang via query-planner optimization bypass
Published Apr 7, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Denial of service in Apollo Gateway before 2.10.1 allows remote attackers to hang the gateway with crafted GraphQL queries. Deeply nested, repeatedly reused named fragments generate selections that bypass the query planner's skip optimization, while planning has no timeout. Unauthenticated access to the GraphQL endpoint is sufficient; a small number of requests can consume resources until the gateway becomes inoperable.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
