Authenticated file write via traversal filename
Published Apr 8, 2025 · Updated Apr 9, 2025
Path traversal in Umbraco CMS 14 and 15 allows remote authenticated users to upload files outside the intended temporary-file directory. TemporaryFileService accepted a client-supplied filename after checking only its extension, then passed that name to repository storage without filename validation. A backoffice account is required, and successful exploitation writes attacker-chosen content outside the intended temporary-file root.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 14.0.0--preview004, < 14.3.4
- Affected versionversion=>= 15.0.0-rc1, < 15.3.1
