CVE-2025-31931

Local privilege escalation via Android marker file

Published Nov 11, 2025 · Updated Nov 11, 2025

Uncontrolled library search in Intel Instrumentation and Tracing Technology API before 3.25.4 allows local users to gain privileges on Android. In src/ittnotify/ittnotify_static.c, Android builds read a dynamic-library path from a marker file under /data/local/tmp or the app sandbox, place that path in the loader environment, and load the named collector library without establishing that the path is trusted. Exploitation requires low privileges, high-complexity conditions, and active user interaction, after which attacker-supplied code runs with the affected application's privileges.
