Local code execution via unsafe checkpoint deserialization
Published Apr 3, 2025 · Updated Apr 21, 2025
Insecure deserialization in InternLM LMDeploy 0.7.0 through 0.7.1 allows local users to execute code via a crafted PT checkpoint file. load_weight_ckpt passes non-safetensors checkpoint paths to torch.load without weights_only=True, allowing pickle reduction code in the file to run. Exploitation requires a local low-privileged user to supply and trigger loading of the file, executing code with the LMDeploy process's privileges.
