CVE-2025-3158Public exploit

Process crash via malformed LWO animation keys

Published Apr 3, 2025 · Updated Apr 3, 2025

Heap-based buffer overflow in Open Asset Import Library Assimp 5.4.3 allows local users to crash an importing process via malformed LWO data. UpdateAnimRangeSetup uses iterator inequality while decrementing an LWO animation-key iterator, so a crafted range moves it beyond the vector boundary and reads heap memory. Triggering requires a process to import the crafted file; the demonstrated result is an out-of-bounds read and AddressSanitizer abort.
