Code execution via unchecked open protocols
Published Apr 2, 2025 · Updated Apr 3, 2025
Improper input validation in Tauri shell plugin before 2.2.1 allows remote attackers to execute code through dangerous protocol URLs. The open command passed paths to the system protocol handler without applying the default allowlist when the open configuration was unset, so file, SMB, NFS, and other schemes remained usable. Exploitation requires direct application-user exposure of the command or existing frontend code execution, while explicitly configured validation prevents the vulnerable state.
