Sandbox escape via unchecked duplicate request
Published May 12, 2025 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Improper access control in RemoteViewServices in Apple macOS Sequoia before 15.5 allows local users to escape an app sandbox. The private PBOXDuplicateRequest function duplicates a user-selected Documents directory to a sibling path outside the app container. The public proof of concept requires the user to select the Documents directory and demonstrates a sandboxed app writing a file outside its container.
