CVE-2025-31253

Audio disclosure via microphone mute state failure

Published May 12, 2025 · Updated Apr 2, 2026

State-management failure in FaceTime on Apple iOS and iPadOS before 18.5 allows context-dependent attackers to hear audio after microphone muting. FaceTime mishandles microphone mute state during an active call, allowing audio transmission to continue instead of being silenced; Apple has not disclosed the responsible state transition or code locus. Exposure requires an active FaceTime call and use of the mute control, and the reported consequence is unintended transmission of microphone audio.
