Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked user meta writes
Published Apr 24, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in WP Configurator's Configurator Theme Core 1.4.7 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to become administrators. The plugin's user-profile update logic writes attacker-controlled user meta fields to the database without validating whether they control roles or capabilities. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to assign the Administrator role, granting control over the affected WordPress site.
