CVE-2025-3070Network attack vector

Privilege escalation via self-matching content-setting patterns

Published Apr 2, 2025 · Updated Apr 3, 2025

Insufficient input validation in Google Chrome Extensions before 135.0.7049.52 allows remote attackers to escalate privileges via crafted HTML. The content-settings permission model accepts wildcard URL patterns that match an extension's own origin, letting the extension grant itself content-setting permissions. Reachability requires attacker-controlled HTML to execute in an affected browser; the consequence is unauthorized extension permission gain rather than service interruption.
