Root privilege escalation via directory path parsing
Published Mar 31, 2025 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Privilege escalation in DiskArbitration in Apple iOS, iPadOS, and macOS allows local users to gain root privileges through a crafted app. DiskArbitration parses app-supplied directory paths without sufficient path validation, allowing permissions to be preserved incorrectly. Execution of an app by a local user is required; successful exploitation elevates that app to root privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
