CVE-2025-30401Network attack vector

Code execution via mismatched attachment metadata

Published Apr 5, 2025 · Updated Apr 9, 2025

File-type spoofing in WhatsApp Desktop for Windows before 2.2450.6 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via attachments. The client labels an attachment from its MIME type but chooses the Windows file-opening handler from the filename extension, so mismatched metadata can disguise executable content. Execution requires the recipient to manually open the crafted attachment inside the desktop client.
