Account takeover via unsanitized email event handlers
Published Mar 21, 2025 · Updated Apr 3, 2025
Cross-site scripting in Horde IMP 6.2.27 and earlier allows remote attackers to take over accounts via crafted HTML email. Its server-side HTML filtering leaves an onerror handler containing encoded or base64-obfuscated JavaScript intact, which the browser decodes and executes. The payload runs when a recipient views the message in the Horde web client, requiring no click, and can expose credentials and mailbox data.
