CVE-2025-29962Network attack vector

Remote code execution via heap buffer overflow

Published May 13, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026

Heap-based buffer overflow in Windows Media on affected Windows releases allows remote attackers to execute code via network content. Microsoft identifies a heap overwrite in Windows Media but does not disclose the parser, file format, or malformed field causing the out-of-bounds write. Exploitation is unauthenticated but requires a user to open attacker-controlled content; successful code execution runs in that user's security context.
