Service interruption via unbounded forum search queries
Published Apr 18, 2025 · Updated Apr 18, 2025
Denial of service in NamelessMC Nameless before 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt service via oversized forum searches. The GET path in modules/Forum/pages/forum/search.php filters the s parameter to alphanumerics but, unlike the POST path, passes it without a 3-to-128-character check into LIKE queries and cache-key generation. No authentication or user interaction is required; flooding the public search route with long values consumes CPU and memory, degrading performance or causing complete service failure.
