Authentication bypass via commented forged digest

Signature verification in xml-crypto before 2.1.6, 3.0.0 through 3.2.0, and 4.0.0 through 6.0.0 allows remote attackers to forge XML. The assertion check reads the first child of an uncanonicalized DigestValue, while signature canonicalization strips comments, so a commented forged digest validates altered data. Exploitation requires a valid signature and digest from a trusted identity provider plus the service provider identifiers; accepted SAML assertions enable impersonation or privilege escalation.
