Authentication bypass via mismatched SignedInfo reference validation
Published Mar 14, 2025 · Updated Mar 15, 2025
Signature bypass in xml-crypto before 2.1.6, 3.0.0 through 3.2.0, and 4.0.0 through 6.0.0 allows remote attackers to alter signed XML. SignedXml loads Reference elements through descendant XPath selection before canonicalizing SignedInfo, so references can come from a different SignedInfo node than the one whose SignatureValue is verified. A crafted document must include a valid signature and multiple SignedInfo nodes; successful verification can accept attacker-controlled identity or access-control attributes, enabling impersonation or privilege escalation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
