CVE-2025-29769

Memory corruption via multiband HEIF channel mismatch

Published Apr 7, 2025 · Updated Apr 30, 2025

Heap-based buffer overflow in libvips before 8.16.1 allows local users to crash image-processing processes via a crafted TIFF file. The heifsave path treats a four-channel multiband TIFF as a three-channel HEIF without alpha, then writes four channels into the smaller heap buffer. Exploitation requires HEIF output from the crafted input and can corrupt process memory or terminate the process.
