CVE-2025-29768Public exploit

File overwrite via archive-member argument injection

Published Mar 13, 2025 · Updated May 2, 2025

Argument injection in Vim zip.vim before 9.1.1198 allows context-dependent attackers to overwrite files via a crafted ZIP member name. The zip#Extract() function passes a member name beginning with a hyphen to unzip -o without neutralizing it, so -d/tmp is parsed as an output-directory option and the entire archive is extracted there. A user must open the archive and press x on the unusual member; files writable by the Vim process can then be overwritten.
