Process crash via SETVARIABLE null-pointer dereference
Published Mar 27, 2025 · Updated Mar 28, 2025
Null-pointer dereference in libming 0.4.8 allows context-dependent attackers to crash a consuming process via a crafted SWF file. The decompileSETVARIABLE routine passes malformed SETVARIABLE action state to getName, which reads through a null address during SWF decompilation. Exploitation requires an application or user to process the malicious file; the demonstrated consequence is termination of that process, with no reported data disclosure or modification.
