Application crash via duplicate free-list addresses
Published Mar 28, 2025 · Updated Jul 24, 2025
Use-after-free in HDF5 1.14.0 through 1.14.6 allows local users to crash an application by processing a crafted HDF5 file. H5FL__blk_gc_list in src/H5FL.c fails to detect when free-list chunks reference the same block, then reads a list node after freeing it. A low-privileged local user must cause the library to open the crafted file; the demonstrated consequence is an invalid read and process crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
