Unauthenticated code execution via QUERY_STRING stack overflow
Published Apr 17, 2025 · Updated Apr 18, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in cgiMain in NETGEAR R6100 firmware 1.0.1.28 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via QUERY_STRING. The cgiMain main function processes the QUERY_STRING environment value with sprintf without a length bound, overwriting its stack frame. No authentication or user interaction is required; a crafted request can hijack cgiMain control flow and run code with the service's privileges.
