Root command execution via newline filter bypass
Published Apr 17, 2025 · Updated Apr 18, 2025
OS command injection in D-Link DIR-823X firmware 240802 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands as root. The diag_traceroute handler passes the target_addr value into an operating-system command after a character filter that permits newline separators. The published proof requires a valid web-management login, despite the record's unauthenticated rating, and demonstrates creation of a root-owned file.
