CVE-2025-29042Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Root command execution via unchecked macaddr value

Published Apr 17, 2025 · Updated Apr 18, 2025

OS command injection in D-Link DIR-823X firmware 240802 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands as root via HTTP. The set_prohibiting handler at function 0x42232c passes the macaddr form value into a system command without validation or neutralization. The endpoint is network-reachable, and a crafted macaddr value executes with root privileges; the public proof of concept performs a login despite the published unauthenticated assessment.
