Root command execution via newline injection
Published Apr 17, 2025 · Updated May 1, 2025
OS command injection in D-Link DIR-823X firmware 240802 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root via HTTP. The /goform/diag_nslookup handler applies an incomplete character filter to target_addr, allowing newline-delimited commands to reach the system shell. The published proof of concept first logs into the management interface, so valid administrative credentials and network access to that interface are required.
