Remote code execution via path traversal
Published Apr 21, 2025 · Updated Apr 21, 2025
Directory traversal in mojoPortal 2.9.0.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to read Web.Config through the BetterImageGallery API. The ImageHandler action concatenates an untrusted path with the BetterImageGalleryCache directory before Server.MapPath resolves it, so traversal segments escape the intended directory. Unauthenticated access exposes the machineKey, enabling forged ViewState submission and arbitrary command execution as the IIS worker process.
